Francisco Matarazzo Sobrinho, founder of the São Paulo Biennial, asks Pablo Picasso to collaborate and participate in the second edition in 1953 with a retrospective of his work. Through the Brazilian artist Maria Martins, visiting France at the time, he states that he will ask Paulo E. Berredo Carneiro, representative of the Biennial, to contact the artist in order to draft up a budget.
