Mark Lombardi produced large drawings to detail what he called the “narrative structures” and constellation of connections between global wealth, arms dealers and unscrupulous covert actions, many of them by politicians and government agents. During the Vietnam War period, anti-war protestors made similar connections. This Newsweek article considers Lombardi’s career and the veracity of his art projects, which reveal connections and flows of power, corruption and deviancy across mostly American-based interests, both domestic and international. Lombardi’s critical stance and his penchant for uncovering and representing often hidden and abstract causal connections led some to consider his death, fifteen years earlier, not as a suicide but as the result of a conspiracy.
