In this template letter, the wives of Dana C. Backus and Simon Guggenheim, Louise Laidlaw Backus and Olga H. Guggenheim, respectively, ask diverse figures from cultural and political spheres in the USA to donate funds to the Spanish Refugee Relief Campaign in order to raise 10,000 dollars for Spanish intellectuals in exile. They also ask them to sign the catalogue for the Valentine Gallery exhibition Guernica by Picasso to dedicate and send it to the artist, along with the donation, as well as an album of press cuttings on the show, requested by Picasso. Furthermore, they notify them that Guernica will tour the country before going on display at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
