Drawing upon the example of John Heartfield’s political photomontages of the 1930s, Martha Rosler montaged part of the front cover of Life magazine from November 8, 1968, with a photo of a domestic US interior of comfortable sofas and television taken from the interior design magazine House Beautiful. “Tron (Amputee)”, from her series House Beautiful: Bringing the War Home (1967–1972), was published on the back cover of the third issue of the radical feminist newspaper Goodbye to All That! on October 13, 1970. Another photomontage from the series, “Vacation Getaway”, formed a double-page spread in the tenth issue (dated March 9 to 21, 1971), where the view from the deluxe domestic interior through the glass wall is a montage Vietnam War scene.
