Mark Lombardi: Global Networks
This installation photograph is from the nine-venue touring exhibition Mark Lombardi: Global Networks, which was organised and circulated by Independent Curators International (ICI), including the Art Gallery of Ontario (September 8 – December 5, 2004). Its first venue was at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, in January 2003 and the last was at the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin in April 2005. Lombardi used a card index archive as a research base for his drawings, which represent the complex constellations of connections in scrutinising any document. An archive is a place, as well as a process. Digital technologies have transformed the “archive” as demonstrated by recent projects such as those by Daniel García Andújar and Hito Steyerl.
