Weaving Peace
The group of women weaver Studio Pratha created an imposing tapestry, a gigantic polyptych of six pieces, each focused on a detail of Guernica reproduced in 1:1 scale. An ambitious project whose execution requested five months of intense work at several looms, and that was made possible thanks to the tenacious industriousness of the weavers’ hands: the resulting artwork is a touching tribute forging a spiritual alliance between this Picasso’s masterpiece and the activism of Sardinian women, in memory of the victims of all conflicts. The six tapestries were made in the small Sardinian village of Sarule, in the heart of Barbagia, using exclusively Sardinian wool in its natural colours. The artwork was conceived for and showcased for the first time during the exhibition "Picasso and Guernica. Genesis of a masterpiece. Against all wars", hosted in the MAN Museum of Nuoro (Italy).
