Go to content

Guernica, painted by Picasso in 1937 for the Spanish Republic's Pavilion at the Paris World's Fair in the same year, returned to Spain in 1981, culturally symbolising the establishment of democracy with the return of the last exile. This podcast will see some of the leading figures and scholars from this defining moment in art history and Spain's cultural institutions interviewed.

The episode features round-table discussions with different participants, organised on 18 November 2011 to mark the 30th anniversary of the painting's arrival, representing, along with other activities, a way of historically reflecting upon the meanings of this journey.
