This front-page report by Neil Sheehan famously broke the news of the Pentagon Papers and began to serialise their contents. A secret 2.5-million word, 3,000-page analysis of American involvement in Southeast Asia to which 4,000 pages of official documents were appended was commissioned by Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara. Its contents devastatingly revealed systematic government efforts to conceal, withhold and supress information about the Vietnam War.
