Alfred H. Barr Jr., director of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, writes to Pablo Picasso to inform him of the exhibition’s resounding success, with the visitor numbers surpassing the Van Gogh exhibition. He also takes the opportunity to ask the artist for both his permission and the prices involved to include the works in an exhibition touring the USA, given that the paintings cannot be sent back with Europe in the throes of war.
